Formula

unit price = price ÷ quantity

How it works

Each product's price is divided by its quantity to get a price per unit; the lowest of the three is flagged as the best value, as long as the quantities were entered in the same unit.

Worked example

The same calculation with the default values:

  • Product A price 4.5
  • Product A quantity 1
  • Product B price 7.8
  • Product B quantity 1.5
  • Product C price 12
  • Product C quantity 2.5
  1. unit price product A = 4.5 ÷ 1 = 4.5
  2. unit price product B = 7.8 ÷ 1.5 = 5.2
  3. unit price product C = 12 ÷ 2.5 = 4.8

Result: Product A unit price: 4.50 USD · Product B unit price: 5.20 USD · Product C unit price: 4.80 USD

Enter all quantities in the same unit (e.g. all in grams, or all in litres) - this calculator does not convert between units for you.

Common mistakes

  • Comparing products with different units (e.g. price per 100g vs price per litre) without converting them to the same unit first.
  • Ignoring bulk-discount coupons, loyalty prices or membership fees that are not reflected in the shelf price entered.
